Volunteer to Serve Others

Volunteers are priceless!

Clara J. Flinchum has been volunteering at the Volunteers of America Thrift Store in Mechanicsburg for nine years.  Having operated an antiques and collectibles store for more than 30 years, she has a broad knowledge of the odd, strange and the hard-to-find!

Clara-CJ to her friends at the Thrift Store-assists in the household department by cleaning donated items and determining a price.  The staff relies on her knowledge of antiques and collectibles.  She researches the more unusual items, goes out of her way to help customers, and finds specific items in the store to help people in need through our emergency services voucher program.

CJ exemplifies our mission to serve people in need.  She educates our staff about many different items we receive at the Thrift Store;  the additional revenue helps to support our programs such as affordable housing, child care, mental health services, and transportation for the elderly.

Volunteers of America relies on dedicated volunteers like CJ to make the world a more compassionate place to live.  Last year alone, more than 2,200 individuals volunteered in numerous ways-such as helping with a special event, coordinating a clothing drive or providing backpacks to school children.

We invite you to join with us, to help make a better future.
