Community leaders recognized at Celebrity Dinner

Volunteers of America’s 8th Annual Celebrity Dinner, held in Wilkes-Barre in May, was another huge success. This year’s event featured Tim Brown, the former Heisman Trophy winner from the University of Notre Dame and Oakland Raiders great.

Brown told the crowd of over 300 people that once he learned of Volunteers of America’s faith based history and ministry of service, he wanted to lend his support. He spoke proudly of his Christian upbringing and his personal faith journey, especially during his very accomplished playing days.

Another highlight of the evening was the presentation of the 2011 Spirit of Youth award to John and Tina Dowd, of Sundance Vacations, and Mrs. Pat Stella, owner of McDonald’s QSC, and a long time member of Volunteers of America’s Board of Directors. The honorees have generously supported the agency’s mission for many years. The Spirit of Youth award was sponsored by Dr. Patrick Kerrigan.

Volunteers of America is most grateful for the support of those who attended the event as well as the major sponsors which included McCarthy Tire Company, Citizens Bank, Mohegan Sun, FOX 56, WBRE-TV, Bold Gold Media, The Tambur Family Foundation, Sundance Vacations, Dr. Patrick Kerrigan and Independent Graphics.
