74th Annual Capitol Egg Hunt
An afternoon of fun, sweets and memories for the entire family
HARRISBURG, PA—Hundreds of Central Pennsylvania children will be scrambling for colorful eggs Sunday, March 28, at the 74th Annual Volunteers of America Capitol Egg Hunt. Children, ages one through 10, and their parents are invited to this free event.
Festivities start at 1 p.m. and the egg hunt will begin at 2 p.m. on the south lawn of the State Capitol. The south lawn is bordered by Walnut Street and Commonwealth Avenue. In case of inclement weather, the event will be held on Saturday, April 3 at the same location. Festivities start at 10:30 a.m. and the egg hunt starts at noon.
Excited egg hunters will race to fill up their baskets with candy-filled plastic eggs. Several thousand eggs will be scattered on the lawn by volunteers. Please bring a basket or bag to collect your plastic eggs.
All youngsters will also get to select a new book. Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania gives away thousands of new children’s books through a partnership with Scholastic.
“The Volunteers of America Capitol Egg Hunt has been a Central Pennsylvania tradition for more than three generations,” said Alan R. Garner, president and chief executive officer. “We look forward to it every year as a great family event.”
The egg hunt will be held in three age groups—three and under, four to six, and seven to 10. Besides dashing for eggs and selecting a book, youngsters will also have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny, and receive candy donated by Hershey Foods and Just Born.
