Board Elects New Members

Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania has named D. Tyler Gourley, policy strategist at the Pittsburgh, and Kate Kolbrener, of Kolbrener, Inc., in Pittsburgh, to its board of directors.

"We are very excited about the additions to our board of directors," said Alan Garner, president and chief executive officer of Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania. "The knowledge and energy Kate and Ty bring to the board will be great assets."

Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania’s board of directors consists of 15 voluntary members who oversee the implementation of programs and services.  Kolbrener and Gourley also serve on Volunteers of America’s Southwestern Pennsylvania Regional Council.  Previously they served on the board of Working Order, a non-profit organization in Sharpsburg which merged with Volunteers of America in July.

Kolbrener is president of Kolbrener, Inc., a marketing firm based in Pittsburgh that is focused on increasing business for fast-growth high technology companies.  She has more than 20 years experience in the communications industry. She is a graduate of The University of Michigan School of Art and Design and has studied in the Masters of Interaction Design program at Carnegie Mellon University.

“As a new board and regional council member of Volunteers of America, I am looking forward to learning more about the Pennsylvania chapter, as well as the national organization,” said Kolbrener. “Having been affiliated with Working Order in Pittsburgh, I am also eager to discover emerging synergies between the organizations.”

Gourley is a policy strategist at the University of Pittsburgh Institute of Politics and serves as the project manager of the Southern Pennsylvania Regional Waste Management Task Force.  He is a graduate of the University of Pittsburgh.

“I am truly excited to be joining the board of Volunteers of America, an organization that provides desperately needed services to the commonwealth’s citizens in a most effective and humble way. I am even more optimistic about the joint future contributions of the recently merged Volunteers of America and Working Order.”

Volunteers of America is a national, nonprofit, spiritually based organization providing local human services for individuals and communities.

Nationwide Volunteers of America provides over 100 different types of services with programs numbering in the thousands through its 38 affiliates,” explained Garner.

“In Pennsylvania we have been providing shelter from the storms of life since 1896 for children, families, and the elderly through a variety of services.”
