Capital Egg Hunt April 5

An afternoon of fun, sweets and memories for the entire family

Hundreds of Central Pennsylvania children will be scrambling for colorful eggs Sunday, April 5, at the 73rd Annual Volunteers of America Capitol Egg Hunt.  Children, ages one through 10, and their parents are invited.

Festivities start at 1 p.m. and the egg hunt will begin at 2 p.m. on the south lawn of the State Capitol. The south lawn is bordered by Walnut Street and Commonwealth Avenue. In case of inclement weather, the free event will be held inside The Forum.

Excited egg hunters will race to fill up their baskets with candy-filled plastic eggs donated by the Republican Caucus and CORE employees of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. More than 5,000 eggs will be scattered on the lawn by volunteers.

All youngsters will also get to select a new book. Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania gives away thousands of new children’s books each year through a partnership with Scholastic Books, Inc. Books range from picture books to best-selling adventure series.

“The Volunteers of America Capitol Egg Hunt has been a Central Pennsylvania tradition for more than three generations,” said Alan R. Garner, president and chief executive officer. “We look forward to it every year as a great family event.”

The egg hunt will be held in three age groups—three and under, four to six, and seven to 10. Besides dashing for eggs and selecting a book, youngsters will also have the opportunity to meet the Easter Bunny, see the Hershey Kissmobile and receive candy donated by Hershey Foods and Just Born. In addition, Eat’n Park “bunny Smiley cookies” will be given away. Unique “boomwhacker” music entertainment will be provided by This Way Up band.
