Naming of Chief Development and Marketing Officer
PITTSBURGH, PA, May 2008 – J. Patrick “Pat” Serey has been named Chief Development and Marketing Officer for Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, Inc. Serey will assume responsibility for overseeing development and marketing functions throughout the Commonwealth as well as all local operations from his office in Pittsburgh. He brings to the post 25 years of experience in senior management with nonprofit corporations.
Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania, President and CEO, Alan Garner said, “We are very pleased to have Pat join our team and are particularly excited about the experience and leadership skills he brings to help us develop the Pittsburgh region’s programs serving persons with disabilities, at-risk youth and others in need.”
Serey began his nonprofit career serving 2 ½ years in management with United Way of the Bluegrass. He then served as President of the Arthritis Foundation, Kentucky Chapter, Inc. for 7 ½ years. During his tenure there, the agency was awarded nine national and three regional awards in the areas of fundraising, media, professional education, public education, and government affairs.
In 1993, Serey joined Volunteers of America of Kentucky and Tennessee, Inc. for 12 ½ years as Chief Development and Marketing Officer. Under his leadership, the organization was recognized with 19 national awards in major gifts, planned giving, and volunteerism.
In 2006, Serey accepted the position of Chief Development Officer of Volunteers of America Delaware Valley, Inc. During his two years of service, the affiliate won two national awards for major gifts and planned giving. He also periodically served as Acting CEO of the corporation.
Among his leadership roles at the national level for Volunteers of America, Serey has served as Founding Co-Chair of the Development Network, Founding Co-Chair of the Direct Marketing Task Force, and Co-Chair of the Communications Network. He is a past member of Volunteers of America’s National Ecclesiastical Board and current member of its National Ecclesiastical Committee. In 2004, Volunteers of America presented him with its National Leadership Award.
