Children's Center achieves national accreditation

The Volunteers of America Children’s Center is one of the first childcare providers in Pennsylvania to earn national accreditation for school-age children from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC).

NAEYC is the nation’s leading organization which promotes excellence in early childhood education.

“We’re proud to be accredited by NAEYC, and recognized for our commitment to reaching the highest professional standards,” said Dolores Swavely, director of the Volunteers of America Children’s Center.  NAEYC accreditation lets families in our community know that young children are getting the best in care and early learning experiences.

“We are a United Way agency and have been providing children’s services in downtown Allentown since the early 1900s,” Swavely added.  “Our staff ensures that today’s children develop the skills, values, and confidence necessary to become successful adults, parents, citizens, and community leaders.  The children are guided to achieve their full potential with individual assessments.  The curriculum addresses each child’s unique social, intellectual, emotional and cognitive development.”

The Children’s Center, located at 730 W. Union Street, Allentown, provides 11 hours of developmentally appropriate childcare for children, ages 13 months to 10 years.  For school-age children, transportation is provided to and from several Allentown public schools.

The Center offers affordable childcare for toddlers, preschool and school-age children.  Hours of operation are Monday to Friday, 6:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Enrollment applications are available by contacting Dolores Swavely, director of the Children’s Center, at 610-432-8352.
