Children's Center receives Kraft Cares grant

Children’s Center receives Kraft Cares grant to foster healthier lifestyles

At the Volunteers of America Children’s Center, good health, exercise and nutrition play a crucial part in each child's early development.  One of the Center's greatest strengths is the food program.  Fresh, nutritious breakfasts, lunches and snacks are prepared daily in our on-site kitchen.

Through a generous grant from Kraft Foods, the Children’s Center is able to put greater emphasis on nutrition and exercise.

According to Dolores Swavely, Children’s Center director, “Healthy meals are extremely important to the good nutrition of the children we serve.  Because of their economic circumstances, many of the children are not receiving adequate nutrition at home.  With the support of Kraft Foods, we are able to promote better nutrition and physical activity for the children and their parents”

The grant enabled the Center to:

  • purchase a commercial freezer to ensure food safety standards
  • provide a trained instructor to lead yoga classes for the girls and boys
  • provide quarterly nutrition workshop for parents

“Good nutrition and exercise are critical to every child's growth and development.  The Kraft Cares funding is definitely helping us to improve the health of our the families we serve,” said Swavely.

The grant was presented by Matthew Stitzer on behalf of Kraft Foods, Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania.
