Volunteers of America kicks off  toy drive

Volunteers of America is seeking individuals, businesses, civic groups, schools, churches and other organizations to help collect new, unwrapped toys for children in need this holiday season.

The toys will be distributed to children, newborns to 14-years-old, in Dauphin, Cumberland and Perry Counties, according to Alan Garner, president of Volunteers of America.

“It’s amazing how much joy a single toy can bring to a child’s life,” said Garner.  “For more than 100 years, the Volunteers of America Toy Drive has brought hope to children who desperately needed it.

“The current economic crisis will create a hardship for many disadvantaged families.  Families that have never before needed help are asking us for toys so their children will have a brighter holidays,” he added

Individuals can participate by donating new, unwrapped toys at the Volunteers of America Thrift Stores at 2550 Paxton Street in Harrisburg, on the Carlisle Pike at Silver Spring Road in Mechanicsburg, 400 S. Main St. in Wilkes-Barre or the Volunteers of Ameirca office at 2112 Walnut Street, Harrisburg.
