Hartman Home – Wilkes-Barre

Finding safety.  Finding a voice.  Finding hope.

Volunteers of America’s Hartman Home is Wilkes-Barre has been serving children since 1973.  Today, the Hartman Home is a fully licensed residential treatment facility for adolescent females, typically ages 13-18, who have experienced or suspected to have experienced trauma as a result of physical or sexual abuse, neglect and/or abandonment.

The Hartman Home serves eight residents at a time and provides intensive trauma based services using the principles of the recovery model.  Residents are encouraged to live as “normal” a life as they can while they work with their treatment team.  Supported by a well trained and caring staff, residents go to school, participate in community and school activities, work, volunteer, plan and prepare meals and so much more.

The Hartman Home is a restraint-free facility that residents come to quickly recognize as a safe, caring place to be.  While there, the residents learn how to advocate for themselves.  Most importantly, they learn that the future can be better and by the time they complete the program, they leave with more skills and a greater sense of hopefulness.
