Supporting Stronger Families

Volunteers of America strongly believes that children do better when families do better.

It is in this spirit that Volunteers of America partnered with Luzerne County Children & Youth to create the Supporting Stronger Families program.  The program reaches out to families who are most at-risk of potential child abuse, neglect or losing their child to the child welfare system and helps these families through crisis intervention and other support services.

Supporting Stronger Families provides at-risk families, who have children between the ages of newborn and five years old, the opportunity to successfully parent their children in healthy and supportive environments.

Services are provided by well trained and caring Family Support Coaches who identify family strengths and areas where assistance is needed.  Successful parenting is supported by in-home parent education and modeling, homemaker services, assistance in establishing support systems and mentoring.  Empowerment, self-sufficiency and good decision making are among the many areas of emphasis so that these young families can grow and have a future full of hope and potential.
