Master Leasing Program - Luzerne County

Unique problems require unique solutions.

The Volunteers of America Master Leasing program, in partnership with the Luzerne County Mental Health Court and the Office of Mental Health Services, provides safe and affordable rental housing to adults with legal difficulties who suffer from serious mental illness and/or substance abuse issues.  Consumers of the program are referred by the court and this program is often an alternative to incarceration.

The program aims to provide community supports, education and financial assistance for housing and housing related needs.  With housing stability, consumers can begin their recovery process, obtain income, repair relationships and learn the life skills needed to live independently.

By working closely with the court and judicial systems, landlords and housing authorities, counseling agencies and other human service providers and county government, lives are changing.  Consumers who could not get access to affordable housing are finding stability and becoming more self-sufficient, responsible members of the community.
