Volunteers of America, which serves approximately 28,000 vulnerable people each year throughout Pennsylvania, will honor Joyce Bender at a Tribute Dinner on Wednesday, May 6, from 6 p.m. - 9 p.m. at the Omni Hotel in Pittsburgh.
The gala is also being held to celebrate the 25th anniversary of passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act to eliminate discrimination against individuals with disabilities.
Joyce is being recognized as a life-long champion for the rights of individuals with disabilities. Additionally, her work to create competitive employment for people with disabilities has earned her a national reputation for advancing workplace access and fairness for Americans with disabilities. She is President and CEO of Bender Consulting Services, Inc., a for-profit company headquartered in Pittsburgh that works with the public and private sectors to ensure that people with disabilities are treated fairly and have every opportunity to achieve competitive employment.
Dr. Melissa Vayda, President and CEO of Volunteers of America said, “Joyce Bender’s outstanding efforts in support of Volunteers of America and other nonprofit organizations make her a richly deserving Honoree. In recognizing her through this Tribute Dinner, the community has the opportunity to say thank you for all of her efforts, locally and nationally, in improving the quality of life for people with disabilities.”
The event is being chaired by Jerry MacCleary, president of Bayer MaterialScience, LLC with the help and support of other community leaders.
