Surrounded by family, Scott Karns is honored at the Volunteers of America Tribute Dinner held at the Clarion Hotel & Conference Center Harrisburg West.
Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania honored community leader Scott Karns, owner of Karns Quality Foods, for his outstanding service to the community at the organization’s Tribute Dinner. The fundraising gala, with more than 250 people in attendance, raised a record $100,000 to provide critical human services to some of the most vulnerable people in Central Pennsylvania.
Karns Quality Foods, a locally owned family supermarket chain since 1959, has been a supporter of Volunteers of America of Pennsylvania for many years, said Dr. Melissa Vayda, president and CEO of the nonprofit organization.
“In honoring Scott through this event,” said Vayda, “our community was able to recognize him and Karns Quality Foods for the significant charitable support to provide funds to help individuals and families who are most in need rebuild their lives and reach their full potential.”
Karns received a standing ovation from the assembled group of business leaders, suppliers, friends and family. He commended the great work of Volunteers of America and its diverse and highly effective programs.
“The Karns family lives in, works in and loves Central Pennsylvania,” said Karns. “With such a connection to the local community we know and understand the importance of lending support in a variety of ways.”
In a more personal vein, Karns expressed a great pride in and thanked his family, his employees, suppliers and customers that have been so instrumental to the company’s growth and success.
