We are excited to announce our 15th annual Walk for Hope, the annual fundraising event to support Ruth’s Place.

This year's Walk for Hope is to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Ruth's Place Women's Shelter! The event will take place on Saturday, June 3rd, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm on Public Square in Wilkes-Barre. Our supporters will gather to walk in solidarity with women experiencing homelessness in our own backyard.

For the past 20 years, our mission has been the same—to meet our residents’ basic needs of shelter, food, and hygiene, and to also carefully guide them in a supportive environment to set and achieve goals.

Ruth’s Place, a nonprofit program of Volunteers of America Pennsylvania, is the only emergency homeless shelter dedicated to serving women experiencing homelessness in Luzerne County. The shelter provides 24-hour lodging and services 7 days a week to women experiencing homelessness in the area.

For 20 years, Ruth’s Place has not only offered emergency shelter but an environment where women are supported and encouraged. It provides the bricks and mortar for well-being: a safe home, social relationships, healthy food, and connections to jobs and opportunities to build life skills. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to their community. The Walk for Hope provides a major source of funding for the programs and services to the women who rely on Ruth’s Place for support.
