Ruth's Place Walk for Hope
We are excited to announce our 13th annual Walk for Hope, the annual fundraising event to support Ruth’s Place. Although it may look different this year, our mission is the same—to meet our residents’ basic needs of shelter, food, and hygiene, and to also carefully guide them in a supportive environment to set and achieve goals.
This year, the walk’s theme is Your Walk Your Way!, which will take place from June 3 through June 6. During this time, hundreds of men, women and children will walk, run, bike, hike and jog their way through trails, their neighborhoods, parks, etc. to show their support for the women we serve. Each person’s participation symbolizes the daily struggles women experiencing homelessness face when attempting to access services they need to regain their independence.
Ruth’s Place, a nonprofit program of Volunteers of America Pennsylvania, is the only emergency homeless shelter dedicated to serving women experiencing homelessness in Luzerne County. The shelter provides 24-hour lodging and services 7 days a week to women experiencing homelessness in the area.
Ruth’s Place not only offers emergency shelter but an environment where women are supported and encouraged. It provides the bricks and mortar for well-being: a safe home, social relationships, healthy food, and connections to jobs and opportunities to build life skills. We believe everyone should have the opportunity to reach their full potential and contribute to their community. The Walk for Hope provides a major source of funding for the programs and services to the women who rely on Ruth’s Place for support.
