Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) Scholarship Application Instructions
In order to apply for this scholarship, you must:
• complete the YEP application (online or paper)
• have a GPA of at least 2.5
• provide high school or most recent college transcripts
• have participated in YEP for at least two (2) years or two (2) summer sessions
• be planning to begin your post high school education (i.e. college, trade school) in the next year
• have applied for alternative funding (i.e. FAFSA, grants, and scholarships etc.)

Through either an in-person interview or a video submission, the scholarship committee would like to get to know you. Tell us who you are, your interests, talents, goals, and why you are applying for a scholarship. You can either:
- Schedule an in-person interview with the YEP scholarship committee. This will give you a chance to share more about yourself and your plans and goals for the future with the committee. To schedule an interview, please schedule with the YEP Youth Director or send an e-mail to: YEPScholarship@voapa.org.
OR - Submit a video! Prepare a video (3 min or less) that helps the committee get to know you better and tells the committee why you are applying for a scholarship. Video submissions can be in a file format of your choice, including as a YouTube link and e-mailed to: YEPScholarship@voapa.org.
*The scholarship committee reserves the right to require an in-person interview.
Personal Statement
Please provide a brief personal statement (400-500 words), including any interests, goals, accomplishments, volunteer experiences, extracurricular activities you are involved with, employment, goals, career vision, why you are applying for a scholarship, and any other additional information you would like us to know about you.

D. Two letters of recommendation from guidance counselor or teacher
The YEP Scholarship is a gap scholarship. It is secondary to all other grants and scholarships. After considering astudent’s other scholarships, financial aid (federal, state, and institutional), and any work-study accepted, as well as the determined Expected Family Contribution (EFC), the YEP Fund pays toward the scholar’s remaining education costs.Scholarship amounts are unique to each YEP Scholar, and can vary from year to year. If all requirements are met, thescholar is eligible and welcome to apply annually to renew the scholarship through the duration of the scholar’s academic program (generally four academic years).
Please note that rewarding of a future scholarship is based on GPA as well as course load, and will be reviewed with the recipient at the beginning and end of each semester. Recipients will also be required to volunteer 8 hours each semester and must present proof at the semester evaluation meeting. Recipients will sign a Morality Clause to confirm good behavior at school while receiving the scholarship.
